Cabin Update

I was gone from my Island for two nights this past weekend. While I was gone, thousands of balsam trees began candling around the cabin, and have dusted every horizontal surface with a visible layer of pollen. The blueberries have all burst into bloom and promise a good crop. The lake level has continued to rise and the dock at Burris Landing is nearly submerged. Even my little kayak dock is at water level. The hummingbirds have returned to find a colorful new feeder and are attacking it religiously. The grouse are thumping away in the near woods. The gooseberries I planted may even produce fruit this year, but alas! the horseradish is nowhere to be found. I caught my first fish of the season off the dock–a nice fat bass–but the bluegills are still hiding. I viewed the northern lights in all their glory last week. The replacement log we have been striving to get installed for the last several years is finally in and stained and holding the cabin up well. I believe the fire-in-the-heating-stove season is over. The black flies have hatched and are biting with a vengeance, but still, life is good!
